The Jacobite Dram Glass - is a stunning reproduction of a mid-18th century Jacobite Glass. These finely crafted glasses are individually hand-formed in lead-free crystal by skilled artisans.
In the aftermath of the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion, followers of the outlawed Stuart cause met in secret to honour the defeated Prince Charles Edward Stuart and toasts were drunk to the "King across the water", a reference to Prince Charles having fled Scotland to the safety of France. Where discretion demanded no word be spoken aloud, the toast was made by passing the glass over any water available at hand!
The loyalty of the Jacobite supporters is legendary. Despite a bounty of £30,000 being offered (literally a King's ransom in 1746!), the Prince was never betrayed.
We invite you to lift this glass with care and offer your own, silent toast to "the King across the water", Prince Charles Edward Stuart!
The Jacobite comes with its own truly distintive gift box; on its front, the image of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and on the back, the story of the Jacobites.
Capacity 100ml (2¾oz).
